A sustainable financial system rests on two pillars: well-functioning financial institutions and financially competent consumers. Money is an integrated aspect of our lives. Consumers must deal with many day-to-day choices when it comes to dealing with money matters; and financial topics are often perceived to be complex.Financial education changes lives. It is about helping people make responsible and well-informed choices that pave the way to financial freedom, and a healthy financial future for themselves and society.

Here are a few examples of how we enable stronger individual financial behaviours through literacy, inclusive access and expanded financial education:

  • In South Africa, our collaborations with organisations such as the Association for Savings and Investment (ASISA) are geared to improving the financial wellness of our communities.
  • In Botswana, Ghana, Seychelles, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia we deliver consumer education and financial literacy programmes through accredited training partners to empower individuals to make informed choices and improve their lives through responsible personal financial management.
  • Our sponsorship of the Money Makeover Challenge in collaboration with City Press in South Africa creates real life examples of the transformative power of using financial services in the right way. Read more about our sponsorship.
