The Absa Cape Epic 2026

The Absa Cape Epic’s 2026 route promises a journey of equal parts pure joy and traditional endurance pain – just the way the riders like it.

“We’ve been planning and plotting this route since before the 2025 edition of the Absa Cape Epic,” says Hendrico Burger, Route Director. “What we really want to show riders this year is that just a few kilometres from a gorgeous small town, you can find incredible trails that will throw everything at you. I like to think our 2026 route blends the classic Absa Cape Epic elements of endurance mountain biking into something that will challenge and thrill every day.”

Participants will thread their way through four diverse Western Cape towns, each offering their own unique twist on Beauty and the Beast: Durbanville, Montagu, Greyton and Stellenbosch will play happy and hospitable hosts for the 1300-strong 2026 field from over 50 countries. Each stage is a pilgrimage in itself, with terrain that’s as unforgiving as it is unforgettable.

Absa And Qhubeka Empower Axios School of Skills Students With 100 Bicycles

In a collaborative effort to enhance mobility and access to education, Absa, in partnership with Qhubeka, has donated 100 bicycles to students at Axios School of Skills in the Western Cape. The first handover took place at the school on 21 March, followed by the official ceremony at Lourensford Wine Estate on 22 March during the 2025 Absa Cape Epic finale weekend.

Many of the learners at Axios School of Skills travel over 7 kilometres to and from school daily. These bicycles will significantly reduce their commuting time, ensuring they arrive at school ready to learn and return home safely. Over the years, the impact of such donations has been evident, as bicycles provide a practical solution for individuals previously forced to walk long distances to school and healthcare facilities.

Absa #SheUntamed

“Absa is committed to leading the charge in empowering women in cycling,” says Tina Venter, Absa Executive for Marketing Operations. “Our #SheUntamed initiative goes beyond inclusivity – it’s about driving transformation and creating meaningful, lasting impact in the communities we serve. This year marks the beginning of our three-year renewal with the Ironman Group, which includes access to the Epic Global mountain-bike (MTB) series, which comprises the SPAR Swiss Epic, Andorra Epic Pyrenees and 4Islands Epic. Selected #SheUntamed riders will travel to unforgettable, inspiring destinations where exceptional trails wind through stunning landscapes, scattered with ruts, mud and dust. True grit, cheers and the sound of chains in motion will unite riders as they pursue each challenge.”

Since its inception, the Absa #SheUntamed programme has led to a significant increase in women participation, growing from 36 riders in 2019 to 176 in 2024, reflecting the transformative impact of Absa’s efforts.

In addition to fostering and nurturing women’s participation in cycling, Absa’s commitment extends to the broader community. The Absa Karkloof Country Club where the training camp will be hosted, has become a vital hub for community upliftment. Absa took on its naming rights in 2024. Through infrastructure upgrades, trail refurbishments and new facilities, the club now stands as a testament to Absa’s commitment to empowering local communities and supporting the sport of mountain biking. In addition to fostering camaraderie among riders, the training camp benefits local businesses, schools and farmers, ensuring a positive and lasting impact on the Karkloof region.
