RedFest 2025: Absa ignites youth creativity and culture across South Africa

From 13 to 16 June, Redhill School in Johannesburg became a playground for creativity as the Redhill Arts Festival (RedFest 2025) celebrated the talent, voice and ambition of South Africa’s youth.

As proud headline partner, Absa infused the festival with our signature purpose, “We See Your Story”, creating a space where young people could perform, trade and tell their stories in ways that inspired everyone watching.

A creative playground for every generation

Over four days at Redhill School, RedFest 2025 delighted audiences with theatre, music and art. More than 20 theatre shows captivated those gathered with magical children’s stories and daring new South African works, while Matthew Mole, Mzansi Youth Choir, Zolani Mahola, Arno Carstens, Booshle G and many others lit up the music stages. The Village on Oval offered over 80 stalls, live music, fire pits, family activities and the always-popular Absa Spin & Win.

Young entrepreneurs in the spotlight

For Absa, the festival experience was about more than entertainment – it was about empowerment. Three young entrepreneurs from the YAEI x Absa Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme were given the chance to showcase their businesses to thousands of festival-goers. Free trading spaces, branded gazebos and mentorship helped them turn creativity into real opportunity, showcasing Absa’s support for young South African creatives.

Art that speaks to identity

Festival-goers enjoyed an interactive installation from Absa L’Atelier programme alumnus Alpheus Ngoepe, a talented young visual artist from Limpopo. His “Open Canvas” invited both children and adults to join in painting and exploring their own creativity on the grounds.

YouthFest: A joyful finale

On Youth Day, 16 June, YouthFest took centre stage, as the weekend’s activities drew to a close. Performers from schools across Johannesburg stepped into the spotlight, showcasing their varied talents. Creativity and collaboration were the order of the day as choirs, orchestras, marimba bands, dancers and actors gathered and entertained festivalgoers.

Through partnerships like RedFest 2025, Absa continues to support festivals, young artists and youth entrepreneurs, reaffirming the belief that the arts can open doors, build confidence and create meaningful opportunities for South Africa’s next generation. We look forward to continuing this unique partnership in 2026.
