In the world of golf, some stories go beyond fairways and scores. They carry messages of progress, perseverance and pride. That is the story of Dylan Naidoo. His rise through the ranks of South African golf has made history. At just 27 years old, this Johannesburg-born professional golfer has made a name for himself while paving the way for a new generation of players. These players, reflecting the diversity in sport for the first time, are people of colour who want to make a difference.
Born on 21 February 1998 to Nalini and Neil Naidoo, Dylan began playing golf at an early age, around the same time his father took an interest in the game. The two learned together, and that shared beginning became the foundation of a journey that led Dylan to become one of the most exciting names in South African golf today. We, at Absa, are proud to support him all the way to his last swing through our Absa sports partnerships.
Early passion, big dreams
Even as a young boy, Dylan showed a rare mix of curiosity and discipline. He represented South Africa in Mathematics at the Science Olympiad in Grade 6, a clear sign of his critical thinking talents. This trait continues to shape how he views golf today. He often calls himself “extremely analytical” when it comes to his swing, always seeking the smallest refinements that could make a significant difference in South African golf.
After finishing school, Dylan attended the University of Arkansas. He spent two years there studying business while sharpening his golf skills in a competitive American collegiate environment. His time at university provided structure and perspective, proving that academic precision and athletic ambition could work well together.

Turning professional: The untold story
Holding the golf club finally paid off. Dylan's professional breakthrough came in 2019 when he earned his Sunshine Tour card through the prestigious Vusi Ngubeni Tournament. This marked a significant moment in his career in South African golf.
Although he turned professional in 2019, Dylan was already making waves at just 18 years old in 2016. He became the youngest winner on the Sunshine Big Easy Tour after winning the Big Easy Observatory. This was an early sign of a promising career ahead.
His journey wasn't without challenges. Like many golfers of colour, Dylan had to navigate a sport still finding its footing in representation and access. His involvement with the Papwa Sewgolum Class, a program within the Sunshine Tour that supports golfers of colour, became a vital part of his story. For Dylan, playing the game was about changing golf from within.
The journey
In 2022, Dylan won his first Sunshine Tour at the SunBet Challenge Hosted by Sun Sibyaya. This key moment solidified his status as a rising star. His confidence and consistency began to shine through from that point.
Fast forward to 2025, Dylan's name is being mentioned alongside the best in South African golf as he competes in tournaments around the globe.
At the 2025 South African Open Championship held at the Durban Country Club, Dylan Naidoo achieved what no other professional golfer had done before. He became the first professional golfer of colour to win the tournament, a moment sure to inspire others on their journeys. This is where Absa comes in, to partner with and support local talent, leading to a promising future.
After the final round was cancelled due to flooding, Dylan and his playoff opponent, Laure Canter, challenged each other to a one-hole playoff. Dylan sealed the victory with a birdie, a perfect stroke that represented decades of progress and promise. This moment was not just a proud achievement for him, but also for every young South African dreaming of competing at the highest level – with opportunities that we can also support through Absa sports development programmes.
His win went beyond personal success. It symbolised a sport slowly evolving, opening doors for future generations. As Dylan lifted the trophy, he also lifted hope as he continued to triumph on his Absa golf journey.
Eyes on the future
With that monumental win, Dylan Naidoo secured his place in golf's history books and likely in the hearts of fans. The victory also earned him a spot in the 2025 Open Championship, where he will make his major debut. This milestone marks the beginning of an even bigger chapter for our rising star.
Dylan Naidoo approaches the next stage of his career with the calm focus he has always shown. He remains analytical, composed and endlessly curious about improving. These qualities make him a great Absa ambassador and a remarkable golfer.
Off the course, Dylan's personality gives even more depth to his story. He loves art and culture, spending time in museums and exploring modern art whenever his tour schedule allows. Currently on his European tour, he shows that he is changing the game of golf with each match. The balance between his creative curiosity and technical skill adds a unique rhythm to his game.
A new face of South African golf
Dylan Naidoo's success reminds us of what can happen when talent meets opportunity. His achievements reflect personal dedication and the broader changes happening in South African golf. Access and representation are more visible than ever.
Through his journey, he is redefining what it means to be a professional golfer from South Africa. This path is sharp and grounded, unafraid to break barriers and community-focused. Every swing, shot and victory carries the weight of those who came before him and sets the stage for those who will follow, reflecting Absa’s commitment to empowering young athletes.
Changing the game, inspiring the future
Dylan Naidoo's story is about more than golf – it's about courage, commitment and connection. His journey captures the spirit of a nation that believes in pushing boundaries and sharing meaningful stories. As part of the Absa Proudly South African campaign, Dylan is the epitome of what it means to rise with purpose and represent excellence on and off the course.
