Absa is proud to lend their voice to discussions at the 50th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.

Our delegation will be led by Peter Matlare, Charles Russon and Cheryl Buss, and supported by Temi Ofong, Anand Naidoo and Hasnen Varawalla.

Peter Matlare

Deputy Chief Executive Absa Group and Chief Executive Absa Regional Operations.

Peter is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Absa Group, and is responsible for the Absa Regional Operations business. He has held this position since 2016.

Prior to joining Absa, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer of Vodacom South Africa and Executive Director of Commercial at Vodacom South Africa. Before joining Absa, Peter was the Chief Executive Officer of Tiger Brands, the largest food manufacturer in Africa.

Charles Russon 

Chief Executive: Corporate and Investment Banking

An accountant by training, Charles joined the Group in 2006, after spending time at Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch and KPMG.   He is a seasoned executive, having headed up multiple portfolios at Absa before taking up his current role, which he assumed in November 2018.

Cheryl Buss

Chief Executive: Absa International

With over 24 years of multi-disciplinary banking experience across Africa and the United Kingdom, Cheryl leads the bank’s international operations.   She has a keen passion for African business and is motivated by crafting partner value propositions that enable growth and sustainability for both clients and the continent.
